Trust your gut

It is important to know when to trust your instincts. All of us can be tempted to make decisions that we know in our gut aren’t the right call. This is something we need to learn not to do. Trusting your instincts and intuition is a valuable skill to have as it allows us to know when to embrace – or avoid – opportunities presented to us.

Often, people have learned to disregard these feelings, so they get brushed off and ignored. To reintroduce listening to our instincts and effectively participate in the decision-making process, we must look within ourselves, ask questions and really think about the answers this generates, letting our unconscious brain push us in the right direction. That’s not to say you shouldn’t be making logical and reasoned decisions, but it is important to know that your intuition is there for a reason and listening to it will help guide you on the right course.

Our intuition lets us know when to walk away. Sometimes we get stuck following a course and we tell ourselves that, because it is the path we chose, we must continue travelling along it. This couldn’t be further from the truth. If your instincts are telling you to walk away and change course, you should consider it. There is a deeper reasoning within that intuition that will help you on your way to becoming a happier and healthier person, who is able to become more confident with the decisions you make.

Sometimes we don’t listen to this little voice and it gets pushed aside, then later we realise that we should’ve trusted ourselves and made a different decision. This happens to everybody and all we can do is move forward and learn from our mistakes. If we learn from our mistakes we grow as individuals and gain​ trust in our intuition. This will help us become more self-assured regarding future decision-making and it will also help us to have the strength to make any decisions we have been putting off.

Whatever it is you have been putting off, don’t ignore it any longer. Live every day as if it were your last. Don’t put on hold anything you feel is important to you. It is easy to tell yourself that you will do something tomorrow, next week, or next year. This only prolongs the agony of indecision and increases the likelihood of you never getting around to doing it. Trust yourself and live life for yourself, not for anyone else.

Take this opportunity to focus on yourself, your needs, and your wants. Listen to your intuition as much as you can. Learn how to analyse what it is telling you. Trust yourself and the rest will follow.
